Jayati started music at the early age of 7 years. Born in a family which was deeply involved in music, Jayati began her music training under the tutalge of her father Shri Krishna Chakravarty who was an accomplished musician who played the piano, harmonium, flute and many other instruments. Jayati's mother Smt. Binota Chakravarty was an accomplished singer during the 50's and 60's giving playback in many Bengali movies under such stalwarts like Pankaj Mullick and Ravi Shankar.
Jayati went onto train in Hindustani Classical music under the famous sarangi player Pandit Ram Narayan and then under Pandit Manohar Chimote who popularized the Samvadini. She is a Visharad in Hindustani Classical music from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
While in Mumbai, Jayati gave several performances in All India Radio-Mumbai and Doordarshan, lent her voice in commercial jingles and had recorded 2 albums under the T-series banner. After emigrating to the United States, she has continued with her passion for music and has performed in concerts all over the country. She has accompanied visiting Bollywood artists like Shri Manna Dey and Sudesh Bhosle.
Whether it is old melodies from the 50's and 60's to the latest Bollywood hits, she enthralls her audiences with her versatility. She is as comfortable in singing a film song as she is with a very traditional Ghazal or Bhajan. She performs in Hindi, Bengali, Gujrati, Marathi, Punjabi and English.
